It might seem like it's taken a back seat to languages that provide better application isolation and better development throughput, but in truth C++ remains one of the most widely used languages in the world. • Why You Should Learn Windows PowerShell

        Length: 00:58:18 | IT Professional

        Download (right-click): WMV | WMA

        http://dlbmodigital.microsoft.com/webcasts/wmv/23976_Dnl_L.wmv

In this session, Microsoft Scripting Guy Ed Wilson discusses the fact that in addition to being the management future for Microsoft products, Windows PowerShell offers a number of compelling reasons for learning it. This session is heavy with practical tips and demonstrations.

      • How to Compound Windows PowerShell Commands

        Length: 01:03:35 | IT Professional

        Download (right-click): WMV | WMA

        http://dlbmodigital.microsoft.com/webcasts/wmv/23977_Dnl_L.wmv

One of the most basic, as well as one of the most powerful, features of Windows PowerShell is the pipeline. By using the Windows PowerShell pipeline, you can take a basic set of cmdlets and build a nearly infinite assortment of useful commands. And yet, all of this boils down to using the pipeline to perform essentially four different types of activities.

      • A Look at Windows PowerShell Providers

        Length: 00:54:48 | IT Professional

        Download (right-click): WMV | WMA

        http://dlbmodigital.microsoft.com/webcasts/wmv/23978_Dnl_L.wmv

One of the revolutionary concepts in Windows PowerShell is the idea of Windows PowerShell providers. Windows PowerShell providers give a singular way to access different types of data that are stored in different locations. Default providers include a file system, registry, alias, variable, function, and environmental variable. This means that you can use Get-Item to access content that is stored in any of these different locations.

      • Windows PowerShell Does Event Logs

        Length: 01:02:29 | IT Professional

        Download (right-click): WMV | WMA

        http://dlbmodigital.microsoft.com/webcasts/wmv/23979_Dnl_L.wmv

Regardless of one's position, it seems that at some point or another everyone will be involved in looking at event logs. Whether it is for security reasons or troubleshooting reasons or general Windows health monitoring, the logs contain nearly all the required information that one seeks. In this session, Microsoft Scripting Guy Ed Wilson discusses the classic and the newer ETW style of logs and looks at the tools that are used with each type of log.

      • Using Windows PowerShell to Manage the Remote Desktop

        Length: 01:02:58 | IT Professional

        Download (right-click): WMV | WMA

        http://dlbmodigital.microsoft.com/webcasts/wmv/23980_Dnl_L.wmv

Even though there are lots of commercial products out there that assist in managing desktops or servers, most are very complex and require a dedicated support team to manage them. Using Windows PowerShell to manage remote machines fills in the gray area. In this session, Microsoft Scripting Guy Ed Wilson discusses using Windows PowerShell to manage remote machines.

      • Lync for Mobile Devices

First time going to TechEd and really excited. I have a few questions that i'm hoping the community can answer. 1.) What should I bring? Is a laptop necessary? Bring a bag or does everyone who is registered get a bag? 2.) I know there are shuttles from the participating hotels, but how often do they leave? Is there enough room on each? Basically just wondering if there are any issues with transportation to/from hotel/conference. I'll be staying at the Residence Inn SeaWorld International Center. Thanks in advance. Hope this helps other.
